ABOUT SWIFFT
The Swifft Collective is a joint research project between the VUB and the ULB, funded by the Helios Foundation. The project aims to establish a multidisciplinary collective of researchers specialized in energy/climate transitions to support the transition to a low-carbon society in Belgium and beyond by concretely addressing its technological, social and financial challenges. It aims to stimulate innovative, collaborative, transdisciplinary research, building strong partnerships with companies, civil society, citizen organizations and policy. The project focuses on three main areas. First, four chairs are structured to ensure cross-fertilization and enable a holistic approach to decarbonisation, considering both global issues and local realities while focusing on Belgium’s socio-ecological transformation. In addition to the chairs and their teams, internal funding calls will help to catalyse innovative research projects that contribute to sustainable solutions and societal impact, further solidifying the project's ambition of establishing a dynamic interdisciplinary institute. Finally, an important pillar of this project is the DeCarbonLab – an innovative hub on campus focused on issues around transitions and transformations and a model for new paradigms within universities.
