Floor Keersmaekers
Biography
I am the coordinator of VUB's Citizen Science Contact Point, which is closely tied to the EUTOPIA European University Alliance framework. Our main goals are
- To raise awareness about (the possibilities of) citizen science and to promote a culture in which CS is considered a fully-fledged research method
- To stimulate both the quality and quantity of funded VUB research projects with a CS approach
We do this by providing peer learning and networking opportunities; training, tools, and info materials; and project support to the research community at our university.
In 2022, we launched an internal project call, supported by VUB's Research Council, that funded two citizen science projects. (Start: April 2023)
Within the EUTOPIA TRAIN project, we published our 'Citizen Science Starter Kit', which is available on Zenodo.
I hold a PhD in Literary Theory from Ghent University and have a professional background in science communication, science outreach, and public engagement in research (via VUB's Science Shop). Previously I worked for Rosas, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker's world-renowned dance company, in dramaturgy, archiving, and project management. I also hold certificates in copywriting and editing, a field in which I've gained experience from assignments on a voluntary basis.
