(The event will be held in French)
The Urban Ecology Centre is partnering with the OpenLab of the Université libre de Bruxelles to organise an unprecedented training programme on knowledge co‑production.
The aim is to collectively strengthen our capacity to understand how scientific, technical, lay and professional knowledge can mutually enrich one another.
Are you a researcher, PhD candidate, journalist, practitioner, science advisor, member of a public administration, teacher or an actor engaged in creating shared knowledge bridging society and the environment? Do you work on issues related to urban ecology or political ecology? On socio‑ecological transitions, or on participatory and citizen‑led approaches? Are you involved in more traditional research practices and wish to better understand the challenges and potential contributions of participatory science? This immersive training week is designed for you.
This week‑long immersive programme offers the opportunity to:
- Explore the theoretical foundations of participatory science, including pragmatic, critical and clinical/psychosociological approaches, as well as emerging research fields;
- Share your experiences and strengthen your methodological skills through case studies of participatory research projects, critical presentations of ongoing work, peer‑to‑peer reflection sessions, group analysis methods and exploration of participatory research tools;
- Build your own learning pathway by alternating between theoretical inputs, collaborative workshops and structured reflection time. The programme will be co‑constructed with the participants, ensuring a balance between academic rigour, creativity and experimentation. Participants are encouraged to propose one or more workshops—whether theoretical or practical—and to take part in those offered by others. Formats that challenge conventional frameworks or seek to explore blind spots or points of tension are particularly welcome.
